| What are the services Hospice at Home provides? | ||
| Hospice at Home provides the same services as a hospice with a building. Day and Night Nursing is available to patients in their own homes. Experienced nurses stay with the patient and family for extended periods during the day or all night, giving nursing care and support. Day Care is an opportunity for patients to have a day out and the relatives or carers to have a day off. Day Care offers company, support, counselling, massage and aromatherapy, as well as craft work of various kinds. Morning coffee, a pleasant lunch and afternoon tea are supplied. The Medical Director is available to visit patients at home and advises patients, families and colleagues on all aspects of palliative care, working closely with General Practitioners. Lymphoedema clinics are held twice a month and follow up treatments are provided. Drop In Centres are held weekly for patients, relatives and the bereaved who may call in for help, support and information.
The ‘Friend in Deed’ service is provided by volunteers who befriend patients coping with a serious illness, who do not need nurse supervision. Further details for all of the above services are given in the 'Service Users' Guide' section of this website. Full contact details are shown here. |

| The name ‘Macmillan’ denotes that the nurses were originally funded for the first three years by Macmillan Cancer Relief Fund, the founder of which was Douglas Macmillan in 1911. Macmillan Nurses are clinical nurse specialists, employed by the NHS and they provide advice and counselling direct to patients and their relatives/carers, also to colleagues, on all aspects of palliative care. The Macmillan Nurses work very closely with Hospice at Home and the Hospice Nurses. |
